Who we are
The Election Promise Tracker is an initiative of the African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME), developed as part of the M-SPACE project. Website address: https://tracker.acme-ug.org
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect information when you access this website.
Information we collect
The Election Promise Tracker does not collect comments, comment-related data, or user-generated content. We may collect limited technical information automatically to ensure the site functions securely and efficiently. This may include:
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Device information
- Pages visited and access times
- Aggregated analytics data
This information is used solely to maintain website security, monitor performance, and improve user experience. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.
Media uploads
The site does not allow public users to upload images or other media. If this functionality is added in the future, users should avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors may be able to extract such information.
Cookies
The Election Promise Tracker uses only essential and functional cookies required for website operation:
- Temporary cookies to check if your browser accepts cookies
- Login cookies for administrators (lasting up to 2 days, or 2 weeks if “Remember Me” is selected)
- Display or accessibility preference cookies (lasting up to 1 year)
- Temporary cookies for editing or publishing content (contain no personal data and expire after 1 day)
No cookies are used for advertising, profiling or tracking individual users. Visitors who do not log in will receive only minimal functional cookies.
Embedded content from other websites
Some pages may include embedded content such as videos, charts, or documents from trusted third-party services. Embedded content behaves as if you visited the originating website directly.
Third-party sites may collect data about you, use cookies or tracking technologies or monitor your interaction with the embedded content. These services are governed by their own privacy policies.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell or share personal data for marketing or commercial purposes. Data may be shared only in limited situations:
- Security and technical support: Service providers who host or maintain the site may access technical logs for routine maintenance.
- Account management: If an administrator requests a password reset, the IP address associated with the request may be included in the reset email.
All service providers are required to follow industry-standard data protection practices.
How long we retain your data
The Election Promise Tracker is committed to complying with Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, particularly Section 18, which requires that personal data be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected.
- Minimal technical or administrative data (e.g., login logs for administrators) is retained only for operational purposes and is deleted or anonymised thereafter.
- Personal data associated with registered users (administrators) may be viewed, edited, or deleted at any time, except where retention is required for legal or security reasons.
- We do not hold personal data beyond what is necessary for the stated purposes, in accordance with the principles of lawfulness, transparency, and data minimisation set out in the Act.
Your rights
Under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, users with accounts have the following rights:
- Access personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of personal data
These rights do not apply to anonymous analytics data or data retained for legal, operational or security purposes. To exercise these rights, please contact ACME via the official contact channels.
Where your data is sent
Technical logs and security-related information may be processed by automated systems for monitoring and threat detection. No personal comments or user-generated content are collected or transmitted, as the site does not support public commenting.
